Since the Ford Raptors were first released, they grabbed the attention of enthusiasts right away. With its off-road capabilities, power delivery, and on road smooth ride. Ford came out on top by working with some of the best in the industry, developing a suspension that would handle just about anything you can throw at it. In 2017, the Gen2 Raptor was released. It caused some hesitation with enthusiasts, as it had a V6 twin turbo and not the tried-and-true traditional V8 powertrain. The 3.5L Ecoboost for the Raptor was rated at 450hp & 510 lb-ft of torque over the traditional 3.5L Ecoboost found in the F150 which came in at 375hp & 480 lb-ft of torque.
We first set out on developing a tune for the vehicle, which we have
been able to pick up over 120hp & 140 lb-ft of torque. The key to the program is
retaining factory like drivability and reliability from your engine and drivetrain. With the
reduced torque management, the power comes on sooner resulting in less throttle
delay. We are able to maintain that power throughout the whole rpm band to up to
5700rpm.
Both SCT and HP Tuners are excellent options for the Raptor. We carry both, choose
your flavor!
Next, we set out to increase airflow on the induction side. In most applications you
normally gain more sound over power. However, the 3.5L Ecoboost picked up an
additional 11hp\ and 14lb-ft of torque with an AFE Power intake, due to the
turbocharged engine. Not only does it look good under the hood, but it also sounds the
part as well.
Since the intake had shown us that there was a restriction on the intake side. We turned
to the crew at AMS Performance for their intercooler and boost tubes. If LOOKS could
kill. The AMS intercooler is top notch in quality and craftsmanship. With the increased
size and thickness of the intercooler it has lowered IAT temps and picked up power
throughout the rpm. The inlets of the turbos are very small, now the factory has the
piping to correlate and are very small and restrictive. Which it may not seem that bad
these helped in low end torque and gaining about 10hp throughout the curve.
Now with everything on the vehicle this will "boost" your raptor from the stock rwhp
rating from 314hp and 327 lb-ft to over 532hp and 567 lb-ft of torque.
Not bad for a few hours' worth of work!
