There seems to be a lot of misinformation on the internet regarding tuning your 6.7L Powerstroke. The biggest misconception is the only way you can tune the vehicle is if an aftermarket exhaust is installed, which is the furthest from the truth. The 2011+ 6.7L Powerstroke is one the best engines and chassis Ford has designed. Ford designed both the engine and chassis in house, which is unheard of in the diesel light duty market. They wanted this truck to be the best option available from any manufacturer. The 2011 was released from the factory with 390hp and over 700 ft lbs of torque. Initially, this power satisfied most. However, power and torque has increased throughout the light duty market and customers demand more power, efficiency, and response for larger RV's, Boats, and better acceleration overall.
Adding both power and efficiency is a complex issue that every manufacturer faces with
new vehicle designs. Through extensive R&D and real-world testing, programs are
developed to specifically focus on those needs. We have found best results with two
simple bolt on's, an S&B Filters Cold air intake, along with tuning from the SCT and
Bully Dog platform.
Which programs do I use and what's the difference?
Let's break down the differences in the programs. Since we retain all emissions
components, power delivery is one important thing that we keep in mind. Our goal is to
provide safe and reliable power, while keeping the vehicle safe and efficient. We keep
all factory limitations, egt, dpf, scr, and more intact to ensure everything is safe and
reliable. The biggest benefit is the overall driving experience. This is due to changes in
torque management and torque reduction, while improving throttle response.
Most customers purchase a Super Duty for on specific purpose, to Tow some kind of
load. With our towing program, we increase mid-range horsepower and low-end toque
to help get your rig moving for pulling out in traffic and generally up to speed quicker
and easier. In return, the added power midrange will help with keep your rig rolling with
less effort.
If you daily drive your truck during the week or even take some trips without a trailer, our
street and sport programs are designed to enhance your daily driving experience. Even
with the extra power and response, you're still able to tow lighter loads. Our tow
programs allow you to tow recommended max weight of the manufacturer. The street
and sport can tow up to 5k lbs without issues or the need to monitor anything. The
street program will add around 75hp and 150 ft lbs torque. It has an aggressive pedal
for instant throttle response, while smooth stock like shifting. The sport program
increases even more, up to 100hp and 200ft lbs of torque. Similar to the street file, the
sport will have more mid-range, high rpm power, while over 2500rpm. Under 2500rpm
they feel very similar.
Last, but definitely not least, is the performance program. If you are anything like us,
you want to have some fun with the truck. This program is everything you desire. With
gains upward of 150hp and 240ft lbs, torque, you'll have an aggressive pedal and power
throughout the whole rpm range.
