Purchase the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3014HS for your 1989-1998 Dodge 5.9L Cummins 12V. Upgrading the OEM head bolts is a must when adding horsepower and torque to your Cummins. The OEM bolts typically can't handle the additional pressure from high-performance applications which can lead to the cylinder head lifting. Upgrading to studs helps keep your cylinder head locked down and avoid head gasket failures.
This XDP head stud kit is constructed from high-quality 8740 Chrome Moly construction that also includes a proprietary element added for upgraded strength and durability. The threads are rolled after heat-treating to deliver optimum fatigue strength. These studs are rated at 220K-236K psi tensile strength and 210K-230K yield strength to ensure a strong hold under higher combustion pressures.
Upgrading from head bolts to studs also allows you to obtain a much more accurate torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force.
Furthermore, they provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time. Unlike OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use, these studs are reusable. These studs are manufactured in an ISO/TS 16949 quality control facility. Included with the stud kit 12-point nuts and washers.

XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
The XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers XD40125TC (For Head Studs) and XD40128TC (For Rocker Arm Pedestal Bolts) are an excellent add-on that should be used prior to installation of this kit. Using Thread Cleaning Chasers ensures that you are able to properly clean the threads in your engine block before the installation and torquing of the head studs. Clean threads will provide you with accurate torque readings which are critical during your head gasket repair, or engine build.
